A Brief History
Dakota ACAC was granted a charter as affiliate of the national organization in 1994, but both the North and South Dakota state councils have operated separately since the early 1970’s, serving as coordinating organizations for college fairs throughout both states.
As part of its mission to further professionalism in the college admission process, Dakota ACAC hosts an annual conference in the spring or summer of each year for school counselors and college admission officers. This year we will join with the Iowa ACAC for a joint conference in Sioux City, IA, May 19-21.
Welcome to Dakota ACAC!
The Dakota Association for College Admission Counseling is a two-state affiliate of the National Association which seeks to assist students and high schools with post-high school planning, and insure professional practices by those providing information.
It’s governing structure is
divided into three sections, that of Dakota ACAC itself and two state councils. The Dakota ACAC Board oversees the annual conference and activities related to the National ACAC, such as Government Relations, Human Relations and Professional Development.
At the heart of the organization is a reaching out to high school students throughout
the two states by means of the college fair programs conducted in cooperation with
school counselors at more than 300 high schools scattered throughout the area, More
than 150 post-secondary institutions are brought together for these programs, including
public and private colleges and universities, technical institutes, beauty schools,
the military services and financial aid information organizations. Current schedules
are available on this site or by contacting the local high school counselors.

Workshops
Our organizations also seek to bring professionals together for continuing education and networking through various workshops and programs. An Admission Counseling Institute for new admission representatives is held in August and the South Dakota Council sponsors a series of Workshops for School Counselors in September, featuring representatives from various state and national organizations.
