The South Dakota Council of Dakota ACAC is governed by an Executive Board consisting of 15 voting members -- nine persons from college admissions and six from high school counseling. All are elected to three-year terms by individual members within South Dakota with approximately one-third of the board members elected each spring. Non-voting, ex-officio members of the board include the Council's Executive Director plus the chairs of the four standing committees:  Budget, Planning Days, Professional Development and Publications.  The Board approves policies and programs, usually based upon recommendations from the staff or committees. The Board also must approve all institutional memberships. Colleges and other institutions which wish to participate in the college fairs within South Dakota must be approved for membership and agree to abide by the SD Council's "Statement of Good Admission Practices."
